Adding Panniers
I decided to add pannier racks to my XT in order to fit the panniers. Unfortunately, the rack, although designed for the Xt 600 till 2006 model, did not fit entirely with the original Yamaha top box rack. Longer bolts and washers acting as spacers helped getting around that problem.
The kit has the new "Lock it system", which allows for quick removal of the pannier frame, if not needed.
I was told by the supplier that all the company's panniers and pannier racks were compatible, but there was a gap between the pannier lock and the rack's lock holder position, which I tired to bridge by using longer bolts and additional washers. Unfortunately this did not work, as the lock broke.
It is tyre changing time again, and after 8500 miles I have decided to replace my Michelin Cirac tyres with more dual purpose Metzler Enduro 3 Sahara tyres which I used to have on my KTMs.
The incompatibility problem is solved by the securing the panniers to the racks by the use of bolts and brackets, with scooter rollers acting as spacers.
