Resilient Freedom 1100
On the 26-04-05, I aquired this used motorcycle privately, my first BMW. One advantage was that I would never have to worry about chains and sprockets again. Small bits and pieces were missing, and it needed new tyres and a major service, but since I got it 800 GBP cheaper than the recommended retail price, I did not mind spending money to get it road worthy.
To my motorcycles
The early days, in Wales.
TKC-80 tyres and a unique high visility sticker pattern were the first major changes to the appearance of the bike. A phone call to Touratech seemed inevitable, as it needed engine protection and other cosmetic upgrades to bring this 11 year old bike to present day fashion requirements. Due to wear and tear, the first two problems were a snapped clutch cable and a broken speedo cable, the latter keeping the total milage down, "chuckle"!
After the move to Oxford, August '05
After having moved to Oxford, the Boxhill byways and the Ridgeway were frequently visited. The TKC-80 tyres provided excellent grip, while lasting for more than 5000 miles, Vibrations in the fifth and top gear were still somewhat irritating while riding over longer distances, but much smoother than on the KTM.
But this 12 year old bike unfortunately had many faults, problems I had overlooked in the urgency of getting another bike after the KTM, with not too much money available for spending. As I was unsure as to whether investing more money into such an old bike would be worthwile, I proceeded onto my next bike, an 1150.
